And we’re back! Sorry for the delay, PAX recovery always takes a while. But now we are here and ready to recap our March #screenshotSaturday posts! Let’s dive in, shall we?

March 3, 2018

This first screenshot is from Mondrian – Plastic Reality! Here, we are showing off two features: one, new background art inspired by the Dadaist works of Sophie Taeuber-Arp. Second, the victory pose for Hale Woodruff. This shot of the gem chest was also taken after background art became fully customizable! The game includes handy Photoshop/PNG templates for you to quickly export your own artwork into the game to use as background images.

March 10, 2018

This is a momentous screenshot, as it is the first one showing Children of Liberty running in Unity 2018! Yes Patriots, we have FINALLY updated the game, and are pulling out all the stops: shiny materials, post-processing, antialiased sprites, you name it, we’ve got it. The Green Dragon has been an excellent test-case for updating, as it combines together just about every possible visual element in the game, from spritework to beautiful paintings, lots of different textures, and soft candlelight.

March 17, 2018

Within a week, we had made even more visual improvements to the scene. Realtime lighting had been reactivated, making the shadows much more accurate to their light-sources. Bloom had been toned down and antialiasing turned up a little bit. The pewter sprites had also gotten some overhauls on their metallic/shininess settings to be more real-world accurate, and we’d played around with the bottles to make sure their color came through while still catching light.

March 24, 2018

This week, we showed off the upstairs of the Green Dragon. You can see the major light source up here is the fireplace in the bedroom, and we’ve also turned up the occlusion culling for more dramatic contact shadows. By this point we’ve also turned on filmic color grading for more dramatic tone mapping in order to help make the lights pop.

March 31, 2018

And finally, we ended the month with another Mondrian – Plastic Reality screenshot! This post was made to announce that we would be at PAX East the following week, at the Playcrafting booth (another blog post coming on this within the next week or two). This screenshot shows off many new features of the game, including some Loïs Mailou Jones inspired background art, shifting blocks, Portals, and Splitters, all featured in the latest EX3.0 update! Most of the levels have gotten overhauls at higher difficulties to show off these new features, so if you haven’t checked them out yet, you should go update!

April Preview

We’re already well into April, and our posts over the last couple weeks have shown off some more new Mondrian gameplay and some behind-the-scenes work for Children of Liberty. There’s definitely more of that, or fancier, in store for the rest of the month. Make sure to follow our Instagram for the latest!
