It’s been an incredibly busy month at Lantana Games. On top of bringing on new student team-members and continuing to work on Children of Liberty, you may have noticed the surprise new banner up above. Well, it’s no joke. Mondrian – Plastic Reality is deep into development and on track for release later this year.
When we started this game early last year, we knew we wanted to take what we built with Abstraction in Beauty and create something really special, something that could connect with players more and have a deeper community element. To achieve this, we’ve taken a three-pronged approach:
- Five playable characters, each with different Top Speed, Acceleration, and Braking stats. This gives each of them a unique feel to the others.
- Mondrian Maker, a robust level editor that lets you create, test, and share custom Mondrian levels, while also using new features like block modifiers, rotating/scaling, and using different block shapes in every level.
- A Campaign mode which goes through the biographies of each of our playable characters, and the ability for you to create your own campaigns in Mondrian Maker.
Right now, the playable characters – Piet Mondrian, Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Hale Woodruff, Andy Warhol, and Loïs Mailou Jones – along with Mondrian Maker are in the game. We are beginning to scope out five separate campaigns, one for each character.
Now, here’s the even bigger surprise: you can grab the game in Early Access right now on itch.io! The normal price is $14.99, however if you happen to have an itch key for Mondrian – Abstraction in Beauty, you will get 30% off! This means you can nab Mondrian – Plastic Reality for just $10.49.
The game is currently only available for Windows, however we are working on ports for Mac and hopefully Linux. We can’t reach those goals without your support though! Please pick up a copy of the game and help us bring Mondrian – Plastic Reality and Mondrian Maker to you by the end of 2018.
For anyone curious about the game’s development and some Mondrian Maker tutorials, check out the game’s development log over on the itch.io page.
We’re going to have lots of news on Mondrian – Plastic Reality and especially Mondrian Maker as the year rolls on, so keep an eye out here and make sure to follow our social media pages everywhere, @lantanagames, for all the quickest updates (links in the footer)!
Also also, the first pieces of merch are available for Plastic Reality, so don’t forget to swing by our Redbubble Store and pick up a t-shirt, mug, or anything else to help support the game’s development!
