The PopBlock Gallery & Arcade is a wing of the digital museum in the game Mondrian – Plastic Reality. This wing plays home to rotating exhibits from independent artists all over the world. As believers in free expression, we welcome artists of all backgrounds and philosophies to come and share their creative experiences with the world.

Background

As COVID-19 shut down the world, it took the art world with it. Art galleries not only closed, but were forgotten. These businesses were important to the entrepreneurs who started them, the curators working at them, and especially the artists who shared their works with the world there. While much of the art world moved online, there are tangible, missing elements to just looking at paintings on a website, rather than in a gallery: the storytelling, the interaction, the feeling of being in a space designed and dedicated to that artist’s world. As we were building out Mondrian’s story mode, we realized that the hub world we were creating could solve all of these problems, AND the technology was already in place to do so.

We work with artists who have a story to tell, a unique vision and style, and especially that emphasize the joie de vivre of the various 20th century, Modernist and Abstract movements. Through playable content, Museum decorations, stories, and even music, we hope to give artists a new home in 2021.

You can view information on our past, current, and upcoming exhibits here. To view the exhibits in depth, you’ll need to purchase Mondrian – Plastic Reality (available for Windows 7/8/10 on Steam). Exhibits require the purchase of additional downloadable content to view and play. This DLC directly supports the artists and Mondrian’s continued development.

Makersmas 2020

December 18, 2020 – January 15, 2021

Makersmas is a celebration of self-promotion and all things creative. During Makersmas, we’ve decorated the Museum with trees that players can click on to earn daily rewards, plus brand new floor, wall, pedestal, and artpiece stylings players can use to decorate their museums! During Makersmas, we’re also inviting artists to share their works, portfolios, crowdfunding pages, or anything else they’ve got on our Steam & Discord communities.

The Adventure Begins

September 22, 2020

The initial opening of the Museum! This hub world was one of the biggest additions to the Mondrian formula, giving the player a character that can move around and explore for the very first time. Venturing into a painting presents the player with an arcadey, block-breaking challenge to unlock further paintings and learn about Piet Mondrian’s life. The museum included 2 art packs (Plastic and Chessboard), 18 Pedestals (Modern, Classic, and Tapered in White and Black respectively), 12 walls, and 12 floors from which players could choose to customize their museums. 10 levels total were included with this episode.

Radio

Mondrian Radio features a rotating selection of artists in various genres. The radio plays these songs in the Museum for the world to enjoy and is not dependent on game speed. For now, the Museum has a small selection of classical remixes of the original Mondrian – Abstraction in Beauty soundtrack, but will be growing, much like the museum’s exhibits, in 2021.

While this initiative is very new, we are hoping to release the music of Mondrian Radio in a series of standalone EP’s that will support the associated artists.

If you are interested in having your music or samples of your music played on Mondrian Radio, please get in touch!

Share Your Work

Are you an artist, musician, or other creative displaced by COVID-19 lockdowns? We are here to help! The rotating PopBlock Gallery exhibits and radio openings mean we can make room for creatives to share their work with an audience of art lovers worldwide.

If you are interested in working with us, please drop a line to
curators at lantanagames dot com. If your work feels like it would be a good fit for the Mondrian Museum, we’ll be happy to work with you to get your digital space
up and running!

Building a Museum Exhibit

Painters, photographers, sculptors, models, graphic designers…. all visual artists are encouraged to reach out to us to build an exhibit in the Mondrian Museum. A gallery generally takes 1-3 months to set up, and is released as DLC on Steam for the grand opening. We will work with you to set up your space’s style, decorations, levels, and story. In the end, you’ll have a brand new way of sharing your work with the world, new audiences getting eyes on your work, and your own audience will discover a whole new kind of Museum.

Downloadable Content Info

Downloadable content is made available on Steam and generally costs between $2 and $8, depending on the number of artists, charity or arts organizations, quality, and quantity of work involved. Revenue is split 80/20 in favor of artists/organizations. DLC will also be included in bundles, seasonal, and themed sales.
