May was a big month for us. Not only did we spend much of it implementing new tools in Unity 2018 into Children of Liberty, but also bringing on board Team Summer 2018! The June screenshots will be showing a lot more of their work, but for now, here’s a peek at what we showed off during May.

Starting us out in May was a Mondrian – Plastic Reality screenshot demonstrating several new features, including new background art, cleaned up gameplay graphics, the new powerup icons, octagonal walls, and revamped bomb animations. The caption also pointed out how easy it is to bring your own background art into the game using Photoshop templates provided with the game.

May 10 marked the 200th anniversary of Paul Revere’s passing, so we felt it necessary to pay homage to the man whose story we tell in Children of Liberty. This screenshot demonstrates a lot of what we’ve been putting into the game lately, including fixed up houses, animated background critters, particle effects, and lots of varieties of plants. Unity 2018’s post-processing and lighting is also used to good effect here to bump up the scene’s drama.

Expanding on the previous week’s screenshot, the crows were replaced with a brand new particle effect that we’ll be using throughout the game both in the background and as a gameplay mechanic. Stay tuned to see this effect in action soon!

For the final week of May, we kept going on our Revere’s Ride prototype scene, adding in other house models, more fences, more lighting, and using Polybrush to scatter grass and stones throughout much of the environment.
